Story and Plot
This story is from the time when Mumbai was called Bombay. One day, on the eve of Christmas, two strangers meet and their names are Maria (Katrina Kaif) and Albert (Vijay Sethupathi). Albert goes out that evening to ease his grief. Maria is a beautiful woman and single mother. She has a daughter who is dumb. Albert and Maria start walking, talking and dancing with each other and an attraction arises between them. But these beautiful moments are about to turn into a nightmare very soon. Why do these romantic days take a dark turn?
Positive Review
Albert is released from jail after seven years and returns to his ancestral home and goes out on Christmas Eve to ease the grief of his mother’s death. During this time, he meets a mysterious and beautiful girl, Maria. But both their lives take a dark turn. The concept of this film is good and its story is unpredictable. The build up of the 2nd half has been done well.
The research of the movie is very detailed and depth is seen in small things. The atmosphere of Bombay has been recreated very well. There are some very good and soulful songs which can be liked. The way BGM has been used in some scenes is also interesting.
Katrina Kaif has played the character of Maria. She looks very beautiful and glamorous in this character. This is one of the best work of her life. She has presented her good acting in every scene and frame. She changes expressions very well. Her and Vijay’s bonding is mind blowing.
Vijay Sethupathi has played the role of Albert Ramesh. As always his acting performance remains tremendous and his work was good even in the dark comedy angle. Sanjay Kapoor’s work in a small role is also good. Apart from Vinay Pathak, Tinnu Anand, the entire cast has acted very well.
Negative Review
The pacing of the first half may seem slow where the story is built up. After which there is also twist & turn but its quantity could have been increased. There were a lot of expectations from Climax but it was unexpected which could not convince completely. But this story forces the audience to think.
Technical Review
Sriram Raghavan is a talented director but his work is decent. He is also its writer. The presentation of the first half and the punch of the climax could have been improved and made impactful.
Music and BGM can impress. Pooja Ladha Surti’s work is decent in terms of editing. Cinematography by Madhu Neelakandan has done brilliant work. Production values are decent.
Merry Christmas Review: Conclusion
Merry Christmas movie is a mystery thriller film whose story revolves around murder but without any violence. The director has presented a very good story. Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi have done a very commendable job. The pacing of the first episode is a bit slow but the story is built up well.
